Frequent Q & A
CoolSculpting®
IS COOLSCLUPTING® RIGHT FOR ME?
CoolSculpting® is a treatment for men and women who want to get rid of stubborn fat pockets in certain areas of their body. It is NOT a weight loss procedure; it is a nonsurgical alternative to fat reduction that has little to no downtime.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Cost depends on how many treatments you need and what areas you treat. Often patients choose to do CoolSculpting® on multiple areas to reach their ideal end result. CoolSculpting® typically costs between $2000-$4000 for a personalized treatment plan.
You will meet with a treatment specialist to determine a personalized treatment that fits your body and your budget. Financial options are available to help you get the results you want without having to pay the full cost up front.
WHAT AREAS CAN COOLSCULPTING® TREAT?
CoolSculpting® is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental (under chin) and submandibular (under jawline) areas, thigh, abdomen and flank, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (banana roll), and upper arm. It is also FDA-cleared to affect the appearance of loose tissue with submental area treatments.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT?
The applicator will be placed on the treatment site and there will be a slight sucking sensation as it adheres to your body, followed by a cooling sensation. You may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. As the area becomes numb, these sensations subside. After the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity, and a sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental or submandibular area treatment. After the applicator is detached, the provider will briefly massage the treated area to break up the affected fat cells to enhance fat reduction.
HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?
Depending on the areas, treatments can be done in as little as 35 minutes or longer if multiple sites are done.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
You may see up to a 20-25% fat reduction in the treated area after a single treatment, however it depends on the person and the area being treated. Your treatment specialist will determine if additional treatments are necessary to reach your desired outcome.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Changes are seen as soon as 1-3 months post-treatment. Final results may take 6 months or more.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FROZEN FAT CELLS?
CoolSculpting® uses cryolipolysis (fat-freezing) technology. When fat cells freeze they die and are then gradually broken down and eliminated through the body’s natural process.
IS THE COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT SAFE?
CoolSculpting® has been approved by the FDA to effectively treat nine different areas of the body. Clinical trials have demonstrated CoolSculpting® to be safe and effective in reducing fat in certain areas approved.
CoolSculpting® is not for everyone. You should not have it done if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss treatment. Discuss any health conditions with your treatment specialist
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS AFTER A TREATMENT?
After the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity, and sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental or submandibular area treatment. A rare side effects that may also occur is paradoxical hyperplasia (visibly enlarged tissue volume in the treated area) and can develop two to five months after treatment and requires surgical intervention for correction.
CAN I GAIN WEIGHT AFTER HAVING A COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT?
CoolSculpting® treatments helps eliminate stubborn pockets of fat. CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss treatment, therefore it is possible to gain weight post-treatment if you don’t maintain healthy lifestyle habits. Weight gain will most likely occur evenly throughout your body, not just in the treated areas.
CoolTone™
HOW DOES A MUSCLE CONTRACT?
The nervous system generates an action potential signal, which travels along nerves to the muscle causing it to contract. CoolTone uses Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) technology, which is an external magnetic stimulation that can bypass the natural body order by recruiting more muscle fibers and generating stronger contractions of the affected muscle.
WHAT IS MAGNETIC MUSCLE STIMULATION?
CoolTone™ uses Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) to selectively deliver strong pulses to muscle tissues in a noninvasive manner. CoolTone's MMS technology penetrates into the muscle layers and induces involuntary muscle contractions, all in a safe and effective treatment. CoolTone™ is FDA-cleared to strengthen, tone, and firm the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.
How does CoolTone work?
The CoolTone applicator generates a magnetic field that creates a current when it passes through a conductive material. Muscles are good conductors of magnetic fields, while skin and fat are poor conductors. The induced current is stronger in the muscle layer and the body responds to these contractions by strengthening its muscle fibers and improving muscle conditioning. The result is stronger, firmer, and more toned abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
IS COOLTONE SAFE?
The CoolTone™ device is FDA-cleared for improvement of abdominal tone, strengthening of the abdominal muscles, and development for firmer abdomen, as well as for strengthening, toning, and firming of buttocks and thighs.
CoolTone™ procedures are not for everyone. You should not have CoolTone™ treatments in areas with metal, electrical, or electronic implants/devices like cardiac pacemakers, implanted hearing devices, implanted defibrillators, implanted neurostimulators, drug pumps, or hearing aids. CoolTone™ should not be used over a menstruating uterus, over areas of the skin that lack normal sensation, in patients with fever, malignant tumor, hemorrhagic conditions, epilepsy, recent surgical procedure, pulmonary insufficiency, or pregnancy. CoolTone™ should be used with caution in patients with Graves’ disease, active bleeding disorders, or seizure disorders. CoolTone™ should not be used in the heart or head areas, areas of new bone growth, over the carotid sinus nerves, or over the neck or mouth. CoolTone™ should not be applied over swollen, infected, inflamed areas or skin eruptions. Caution should be used for patients with suspected or diagnosed heart problems.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS AFTER TREATMENT?
Common side effects may include, but may not be limited to, muscular pain, temporary muscle spasm, temporary joint or tendon pain, and redness at or near the treatment site.
